Welcome from Pastor Looper
Thanks for taking the time to visit our website. I think it will help you get a good idea of who we are, what we believe and what we do at McIlwain Presbyterian Church.
Churches strive to be and do all sorts of things in order to set themselves apart as unique. At McIlwain we believe that there is really only thing that matters—and that one thing should drive everything else: the Gospel.
The apostle Paul tells us that the Gospel is the thing of “first importance” (1 Corinthians 15:3) and that it is “the power of God for salvation” (Romans 1:16). That means that this message of God’s grace through Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin makes the church what it is—and at McIlwain we strive to keep that message front and center.
McIlwain is a Presbyterian church in the Reformed evangelical tradition, which means, among other things, that we are committed, as the Westminster Shorter Catechism says, to glorifying God and enjoying him forever. We believe that understanding the last half of that phrase is foundational to fulfilling God’s desire for our lives; enjoying God and giving him glory for his good gifts begins right now and should drive us every moment of every day!
The message of Christ is what provides meaning and beauty to our lives; it drives out fear and insecurity so that we may approach God with boldness and love; it transforms our minds and empowers us to follow Christ with both passion and realism; it binds people in community and service to be a blessing to those both in and outside the body of Christ.
I look forward to meeting you! If you are visiting the Pensacola area any time soon, please join us for worship. If you have any other questions, please give me a call or send me an email.
