Rob Looper

Senior Pastor

Born into a military family in Smyrna, Tennessee on December 18, 1963, I have had the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of American sub-cultures. After my father retired from the Air Force in 1972, my family returned to my parents’ home of Pickens, South Carolina and the red clay hills of my heritage. There I was educated in the public school system and attended both Clemson University and the University of South Carolina, graduating from the latter with a B.A. in English in 1988. Nonetheless, my blood still runneth orange! It was during my time at USC, through Reformed University Fellowship, (http://www.ruf.org) that I came to know the Lord and believed God was directing me to pastoral ministry.

In 1989 I moved to St. Louis, Missouri to attend Covenant Theological Seminary. During that time I met my wife-to-be, Lisa, while she was pursuing a Master's of Arts in General Theological Studies. We were married in 1992. In 1993 I received my M. Div., was ordained in Missouri Presbytery and ministered at Twin Oaks Presbyterian Church in suburban St. Louis until 1998, working primarily with small groups and discipleship. From 1998 until 2001 I served Trinity Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, after which I received the call to McIlwain. This call had special meaning for us because Lisa was born in Pensacola and attended McIlwain as a child; it was for her a place full of many memories and where she came to know the Lord. Now the Lord is giving us, together with our family, new memories.

Lisa and I have three children, Hannah (1997), who is in college, Bennett (1999), and Laura (2002), both of whom attend a local Classical Christian school. I enjoy playing guitar, reading, playing guitar, dates with my wife, Friday-night family time, playing guitar, and I languish between seasons of College Football (Go Tigers!). Did I mention I enjoy playing guitar?

  Dennis

Dennis Louis

Pastor of Discipleship

I was born in the Bahamas to a Jamaican immigrant who came to the Bahamas with nothing more than the clothes on her back, the shoes on her feet, and a small bag with a few personal effects. Though I was raised in what can only be called a melting pot of religious beliefs, I came to know the Lord about year before I went to college in 2003. It was at college that may faith strengthened and I became a student of God’s words. Before graduation, at the request of my future wife, Theresa, I began attending McIlwain Presbyterian Church, where for the first time I was introduced to the Reformed faith – and my life was never the same. It was also at McIlwain that I felt a call to gospel ministry.

By God’s providential hand, I went to Reformed Theological Seminary (http://www.rts.edu/jackson/) in Jackson MS where I spent the next three years preparing for ministry. It was a time of great learning and spiritual maturity. Upon graduation from RTS the Lord led us to return to McIlwain.

My wife and I have three children, Maddyson (2009), Virginia (2011), and Caden (2012). Yes, we have our hands full. Still, I find time to indulge in reading, writing, and planting gardens.

  Lee

Lee Black

Facilties Maintenance Coordinator

Working as Facilities Maintenance Coordinator here at McIlwain Presbyterian Church allows Lee the up-close opportunity to appreciate its turn-of-the-last-century architecture that, in his words, is "awe inspiring." Lee was born in Pensacola and has lived in this area nearly all his life. He and his wife Debbie have two children. In Lee's spare time he has been known to make a few cast nets and throw them over fish.

Cindy Brown

Chlidren's Discipleship Coordinator

Cindy grew up northeast of Atlanta, in Gwinnett County, with her mother and younger brother. After some college-hopping she ended up in Charleston, SC where she met her future husband, Colby, whom she married in 1993. After spending four years (1999-2003) in North Carolina at Ambassador Baptist College they moved to Pensacola to be part of a Reformed Baptist church ministry. After several years of attending special events and other activities at McIlwain, they decided to visit on a more regular basis and check out “this Presbyterian thing”. Everything must have checked out, because the Brown family joined McIlwain in the summer of 2016. Along their journey, Colby and Cindy have had seven amazing children; Hunter (1994) Connor (1996) Trevor (1999) Summer (2001) Parker (2004) Gunnar (2006) and Keller (2008). They are homeschoolers of almost 20 years and play a myriad of sports and instruments. Keeping things in order for home/school life occupies a lot of Cindy’s time but she still loves to over-commit to volunteer opportunities in the homeschool and soccer community. IF she’s not doing any of the above you’ll find her drinking coffee and running (in that order). Other hobbies include re-painting the living room, staying up too late because it’s quiet, and working her way through all the books on her night stand. When all of the children are grown she thinks she will split her time between doing Triathlons and using the restroom uninterrupted. Cindy feels that given her abundant proximity to children over the last 23 years, it is a pretty natural fit to help out at McIlwain in this area.
